Alright twin mamas, and twin mama's to be, here are my favorite things that got me through the daily #twinmamastruggles... Some were a huge help in the beginning and some are still my lifesavers now. But really, all of these items made twinning that much easier for us, and I recommend putting them all on your registry must-haves. All of these are available on Amazon, aka every mom’s go to for fast, easy shopping! You can click the pictures, or titles to link to the products if you want to check them out.
1. Self Feeding bottles
THESE were EVERYTHING for me!!!! I'd say one of the hardest things with twins is feeding TWO babies EIGHT times a day! I pumped my milk so that I could have my husband or anyone help feed the babies when possible. So, we used bottles all day. The bottle routine is tedious enough with one, but trying to feed and burp two babies at once is a challenge. With these bottles, I was able to have my hands free while both drank, then I could easily burp one while the other was drinking their bottle. It was a lifesaver! Not having to hold two bottles in their mouths for 15-30 min depending on how quickly they drink, is an amazing feeling! My boys learned the bottles fairly early too, at a month old. At first it's a bit of them spitting out the nipple and you putting it back in, but they eventually learn to hold it in on their own, and it's still much easier.
2. Twin Nursing Pillow
These things are amazing, and NOT just for nursing! I only tandem nursed my twins occasionally to soothe them. Most of the time they were bottle fed from what I pumped. So, I used this pillow as a seat for the boys when they ate, when we played, sometimes for naps, ALL the time! They must have used this as their eating spot for at least 8 months.
3. Double Snap N Go Stroller Frame
With two, it’s no surprise carrying the infant car seats is just not feasible all the time. This snap and go was light, easy to collapse, and quick to snap them into whenever I needed. I used it for walks, dr appts, anywhere I needed to take both by myself when they were tiny.
4. Double Stroller
I love this stroller. I actually had a hand me down Mountain Buggy, but if I were to go back and buy a new one, I would have gotten this one! A friend of mine has it, and loves it. I love that it is designed for two kids of the same age. Some designs are meant for one younger and one older kid. This stroller is made for twins! I also love that the seats can be turned any way you like, AND it can accommodate two car seats if you just want to skip the snap and go frame! It’s fairly light for a double stroller, and has a slim design for easy maneuvering.
5. Multi-View Video Monitor
THIS is so wonderful for twins. You can view both at once!! I would hate waiting for 10 seconds or however many for the monitor to pan between cameras. This gives you the option to see both at once! Trust me, even when you know your babies’ cries by heart, every now and then, they can trick you!
6. Carseat/shopping cart/Breast Feeding Cover
I used these ALL the time with my twins, and I still use mine with my littlest one now. When they were tiny, I used these as BFing covers, and carseat covers when I was out and didn't want strangers sticking their heads, and hands in my kids' faces. All my kids were flu season babies, so trust me, I feel ya germaphobic mommies!! And when they go through the dreaded four month sleep regression, and naps are a chore everywhere but the car, I would put the cover over their seat to prevent ANY distractions! That works wonders for babies from 4 months on when they start being more aware of their surroundings and would stare out the window for entire trips if you let them. Then, of course, for the babes who love to put their mouths on shopping carts, THESE are everything! Mine were, and still are little mess-makers, and these helps with that too! When we are shopping, and I have this cover on, it catches any spills, and crumbs my little gremlins would otherwise leave behind for the next poor unsuspecting mama to come across.
7. Twin Bassinet Pack N Play
This is what we put in our bedroom and kept the babies in for the first few months while they were waking often. It is great because when they outgrow it, it's still so useful as a travel crib, play area for the twins, or even for naps.
8. Back Pack Diaper Bag
When you’ve only got as many hands as you have kids, you need them free to grab said kids at a moments notice. Therefore, I highly recommend a back pack style diaper bag! This is one that I got when we had our third baby, but it would have been SO useful when I just had the twins. There is so much space in it, which is necessary when you’re packing double the spare outfits, diapers, bottles, snacks, toys, etc. Also, it comes in an array of colors, so you can pick whatever suits your style!
9. Buggy Bench
OMG y’all!! If I had a penny for every time someone stops me in the store about this genius little invention!! Seriously, one of the most irritating things to me as a twin mama is how most grocery stores’ shopping carts are made for moms of ONE small child. That doesn’t even make sense for moms with two under 4 years old! This little seat stays in my car for any time I have to visit one of these anti-twin stores :-( okay, fine, they probably aren’t really anti-twin moms, but it definitely bugs me. Why can’t they all be as accommodating as Costco? Oh well, until they are, BUY THIS!! It holds up to 45lbs! It folds nicely to put in the car, and works with any shopping cart.
10. Hands Free Pumping Bra
These are great when you need to soothe a baby who won’t stop crying long enough for you to pump, or when you just want to get ready but know afterwards you’re going to have to pump before you can leave the house. Why not do both at once? When I started doing that, the time I saved was incredible!! By the time I finished pumping, my makeup was done and I was ready to go!
I really hope these can help y’all as much as they helped this twin mama! Feel free to ask me any questions, I’m always happy to help another mama out!
