They waited 9 months while mommy kept saying a baby was coming. They would ask to go to her room, point at her crib and ask about her. They learned her name was sissy, and something they couldn’t pronounce, so “sissy” or “baby” she became. They’d kiss my belly, and say “I love you baby.” We talked about her all the time and thought they may actually understand what we were talking about, while other people told us they were too young. Nevertheless, I continued to tell them about her, and prepare them saying she would be coming out of mommy’s belly soon and that we would keep her forever. Finally she was here, and they were in love. They didn’t seem surprised, caught off guard or upset. Instead, they embraced her and are completely in love. They never point at my belly and say baby now. They seem to have fully understood this little lady was the baby we had discussed for months, the baby who had been making mommy’s belly so big; and now she is here, and she is all theirs.
It was 39 weeks into my pregnancy, which I was pleasantly surprised had flown by. I guess it’s not a huge surprise to an onlooker when you see the two munchkins keeping my hands and heart full those 9 months. I knew something was different Saturday night, when contractions seemed to come back regularly for an hour or two at a time. I was tired, but nesting hard from then until Tuesday. It was Tuesday night around 8pm when the contractions came back at 5 min apart, and I thought wouldn’t it be funny if she decided to come tonight when we had already planned her arrival for that week. After having contractions like this before, I figured I’d just wait it out and see if they became unbearable. So I went to bed that night excited to meet my little girl soon, but assuming she would stay put for now. When I woke up around midnight and contractions were keeping me from falling back asleep the rest of the night, somehow I still wasn’t convinced. After what felt like the longest night of my pregnancy so far, we finally woke up around 5 and I knew I was in labor. We headed to the hospital and baby girl stayed put while I was prepped for a repeat c section. Aside from the contractions hitting me every 2-3min while they prepped me for the c section, everything went perfectly!
Baby girl made her arrival at 8:29am on Wednesday September 27, weighing in at a whomping 8lbs 6oz, and 20.5” long! I was 39 weeks 6 days and baby girl couldn’t wait one day longer to enter this big world!
